Rev. Anum-Sai calls on Laurent Gbagbo to relinquish power

La (GAR), Jan. 17, GNA - The Chairman of the Calvary Apostolic Revival Church, The Reverend Ishmael Anum-Sai, has added his voice to the call on the beleaguered Ivorian President, Laurent Gbagbo, to concede defeat and hand over power to Mr Allasane Ouattara in the interest of peace and national unity.

He said the on-going massacre in La Cote D'Ivoire was a source of wary to the international community, especially Ghana since a good number of her nationals resided in that neighbouring country.

The Rev. Anum-Sai expressed these sentiments in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at La in the Greater Accra Region. He observed that President Gbagbo's determination to cling on to power despite having lost the election epitomized the greed of African political leaders.

The Rev. Anum-Sai also observed that from all indications, President Gbagbo was not ready to relinquish power to his opponent. 93The situation therefore calls for diplomacy and tact in an attempt to oust him from offic= e so that the move does not trigger civil war in the country."

He urged African political leaders to learn from statesmen like Nelso= n Mandella of South Africa and to step down peacefully when their constitutional mandate in office ended.
