No church service on Election Day for Victory Bible Church

Accra, Nov. 3, GNA - The Executive Council of Victory Bible Church International has directed all the branches of the church nationwide not to conduct services on Election Day, Sunday, December 7. The directive is to enable members of the church to exercise their franchise democratically, a statement issued by the Reverend Cornelius Adja Cofie, General Secretary of the Church, said on Monday. It said the Council had asked the churches to hold services on Saturday morning on December 6 from 0800 to 1200 to enable members who would travel to exercise their franchise to do so peacefully. Rev. Cofie announced the decision at the Church's Auditorium at Awoshie in Accra when he educated the congregation on peaceful elections under the theme: "Sustaining Peace and Stability of Mother Ghana before and after December 7th elections."

He said Ghana was not insulated from electoral violence and that was the reason "we as a church have always supported the nation's democratic journey with prayers actively observing electoral processes and elections locally and internationally". He said the Church would also partner the Ghana Pentecostal Council to carry out a number of activities including a three-day special national prayer service for peaceful elections under the Good Governance Performance Programme scheduled for December 4-6. Rev Cofie urged the government, law enforcement agencies and all political parties to create enabling political environment to safeguard the interest of all Ghanaians.

The statement urged all members of the church and all well meaning Ghanaians to go to the polls in their numbers peacefully.
