National Catholic Bible Congress ends

A 3-day National Bible Congress has ended at Pope John Paul Formation Centre at Ofoase Kokoben, in the Ashanti Region.

The congress organized by the Biblical Apostolate Commission of the Catholic in Ghana brought together 50 participants from 12 dioceses of the Catholic Church.

It was aimed at cerebrating the word of God and also finds means of intensifying evangelization and helps many more people have access and understand the Bible.

In a key note address to end the congress, the Episcopal Chairman for the Biblical Apostolate and Bishop of the Kumasi Archdiocese of the Catholic Church, Most Rev. Gabriel Justice Anokye urged Ghanaians especially the youth to take keen interest in the word of God since it was key to success in every endeavour of life.

He commended the Biblical Apostolate Commission for the congress which in the long run could enhance the teaching and understanding of the Bible in the church, for society as he described the bible as the manual for life.

Most Rev. Anokye entreated the participants of the congress to live with the word and also share it with others to enable them have eternal life.

On the national front, the Archbishop lament over the fragile nature of the peace in the nation and appealed to all Ghanaians to work to strengthen the peace in the country.

He said there was the need for a national reconciliation for all to bring a lasting peace to the entire nation and challenge churches and all faith-based groups in the country to lead the crusade by sensitizing their followers to live in peace with one another.

The Episcopal Chairman for the Biblical Apostolate said although the clergy do not do politics, they however have every right to comment on national issues as they unfold, saying the work of the clergy was to leads the people so whatever concerns the people should also concern them hence the need for them to express their opinion on national issues.

The Northern Sector Manager of the Bible Society, Rev. Charles Adu Twumasi commended the Catholic Bishop’s Conference in Ghana for collaborating with the Ghana Bible Society for promoting the word of God through the establishment of the national commission for the Biblical Apostolate in the church.

The National Coordinator for the Biblical Apostolate Commission of the Catholic in Ghana Mr Charles David Bannerman Mensah said the time has come for Catholics to take the studying of the scripture as a serious activity since that was the only way they could be closer to their God.

He also commended the Catholic Bishops Conference for sponsoring the conference which would not only help with the propagation of the Gospel but also help the participants to get closer to God.
