Accra, Dec. 26, GNA- Ghana's independence, which brought in its wake political development has given the rest of Africa a new leash of life leading to socio-economic growth and good governance on the continent. Mr. Valiollah Mohammadi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, announced this at the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Muslim Academy in Accra on Tuesday. It was under the theme: "Ghana at 50 and beyond, the contribution of the Muslim Youth towards National Development" He said Africa with her manpower and resources contributed to the might of big powers, without which it was almost impossible for them to reach their present status.

Mr. Mohammadi said Ghana and Iran attach great importance to the Non-Aligned Movement, a movement born in the midst of bi-polarism but still relevant in monopolarism since unilateralism posed greater dangers and challenges compared with the older international regimes. He said Muslims in Ghana have always lived in a spirit of brotherhood and co-existence with the rest of the society. The Ambassador said they lay emphasis on friendship and solidarity, the commitment to empower themselves and serve their country. Mr. Mohammadi expressed the hope that Ghanaian youth; particularly the Muslim ones would fully appreciate the priorities of the 21st Century when science and technology are the keys for economic development.

"They have to make them aware of the latest scientific advancements and try to have an equal share in Ghana's agenda for upgrading good governance and economic prosperity", he added. Sheikh Armiyao Shaibu, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of Islamic Education Unit called on the youth to open a new, chapter by refraining from acts which hindered national development. He said the Muslim youth would be doing disservice to the nation if they did not allow the teachings of Islam reflect in their daily lives.

Sheikh Shaibu asked them to use their energy for national development. Brother Yahya Abdullahi Hussein, Acting General Secretary of the Ghana Muslim Academy, advised the youth to lead exemplary lives and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the nation as a whole.
