Make disciples of the evangelized-Moderator

Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel MarteyRight Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey

Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) Sunday exhorted the Presbyterian family in Ghana to work at making disciples of those they evangelize.

“We are lacking the ability to make disciples. We are losing our members to the new churches,” he lamented.

Right Reverend Martey was addressing the Seventh General Assembly thanksgiving Service of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana (EPCG) in Ho under the theme, “Go make disciples.”

He asserted that the Presbyterian fraternity (PCG and EPCG) has been doing a good job at evangelizing the people but have not been able to retain them.

He said the theme, “Go make disciples,” in Isaiah 6:8, Mathew 28:16-20 and John 1:43-50, is a “command, a charge and a great Commission, a gigantic mandate, a sacramental mandate.”

“We have an anointing from the Holy One, real authentic. You are endued with power, the Holy Spirit.”

Right Reverend Martey said the Holy Spirit anointing constitutes an authority and encouragement by Jesus Christ to pursue his agenda and programme of making disciples worldwide, across-cultures.

In a sermon Reverend Roddy Dunkerson of the United Church of Christ, Nebraska USA said people become disciples of Jesus Christ because they believe him, not because the world accepts him.

He said disciples are God’s building materials that God is using to renew the world.

Reverend Dunkerson said the world is very thirsty of disciples of Jesus Christ because falsehoods were being promoted on television and preached from some pulpits.
