Kassena-Nankana District inaugurates Local Council of Churches

Navrongo, March 9, GNA - The Chairman of the Local Council of Churches in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, Rev Alfred .W. Afful, said on Friday that churches would not relent in their efforts of preaching peace and unity.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Local Council of Churches on Friday in the Kassena-Nankana District in Upper East Region, Mr. Afful said the council would continue to use its platform to instil moral values, peace and unity in order to create a harmonious atmosphere for development.

Mr. Afful appealed to Ghanaians to use the celebration of the 50th year Golden Jubilee Anniversary for reconciliation and put the nation's development above partisan politics. He said the Local Council of Churches in the district would provide a common forum for the discussion of matters affecting the Christian faith and principles as well as general life and welfare of the people in the community.

Mr. Emmanuel Chegeweh, the Kassena-Nankana District Chief Executive, lauded the Church in complementing government's efforts in the nation's development and stated that as a result of limited resources, the government alone could not provide facilities and services to the people.

He said despite the numerous churches in the country, crime wave continued to be on the ascendancy and appealed to the churches to use their platforms to preach and instil higher moral values in Ghanaians to help curtail crime.
