Jehovah's Witnesses to hold conventions

Accra, Nov. 1, GNA - Several thousands of Jehovah's Witnesses will attend a series of three-day conventions in Ghana from November 12 aimed at providing evidence of God's existence to delegates, especially non-believers.

The Conventions, which will span nine weeks, will be under the theme: "Remain Close to Jehovah." They are being organized in 22 destinations countrywide and that for Accra would be held at Baatsonaa on the Spintex Road.

A release, which was signed by the News Service Co-ordinator of the Conventions, Mr Samuel Gaskin, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday in Accra, said the programmes would be held in English, Dangme, Ewe, Frafra, Ga, Nzema and Twi. At certain locations, including Accra, the American Sign Language will also be used.

It said the conventions would highlight the importance of maintaining a strong personal relationship with Jehovah God.

"Witnesses believe that friendship with God is vital if one is to find happiness now, resist temptations and survive the impending destruction of wickedness on earth," it added.

The release said all the 62 conventions to be held in the country would be open to the public free of charge, adding that the public was invited to attend any session or the entire three-day programme. Jehovah's Witnesses number more than 7.3 million worldwide and function in 236 countries.

They are organized into more than 105,000 congregations. In Ghana, there are more than 90,234 Witnesses organized in some 1,339 congregations.
