Hajj Stampede: Survivor now in Ghana

Hajj Hajj

The Mecca stampede survivor who was alleged to have been abandoned has returned home.

The Pilgrim’s Affairs Office, Ghana, has explained that it was not true it has abandoned the Ghanaian survivor of the Mecca stampede.

In a statement, the office through its deputy public relations officer Aminu Lamptey explained that Alhaji Abubakar Iddrisu was hospitalized for two weeks following what he suffered during the Mecca stampede and has since been discharged following his recovery.

A story made the rounds earlier that the patient had been abandoned to his fate and his case worsened by the fact that nobody could trace his family.

This, the Hajj Office has denied with the Chairman of the Office, Alhaji Tanko Abdul Rauf Ibrahim telling the DAILY GUIDE that “the man who has since been reunited with his people in Wa is a Wala man and his agent is Danwana. At the time I visited him before he left for Ghana he was in a stable condition in hospital. The allegation that we have abandoned him is not true.”

The deputy PRO said that “the man was caught up in the Mecca stampede and got injured and was hospitalized for two weeks. He was medically examined by our medical team and cleared before he was airlifted on Saturday on board the 6th flight to Accra with a nurse assistant. The man who is currently back in Ghana is a native of Wa".
