EP church marks 50th Anniversary Celebrations

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana(EPCG), Teshie, has marked its Golden Jubilee Celebration with a call on Ghanaians especially Christians to live in unity and avoid divisions.

This year's celebration was held on the theme, "Advancing Gloriously and Building on our Gains, 2 Corinthians 4:6-12".

Reverend Dr Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Bliss Divine Kofi Agbeko, the Synod Moderator EPCG, Meridian Presbytery delivering a sermon said Christians should eschew bitterness and revenge.

He asked them to embrace forgiveness and resolve issues to live in unity and togetherness.

He added that forgiveness, love for one another and selflessness were crucial tools for peace, reconciliation and national development.

"50 years shouldn't be mere counting of figures, so I urge you members as you celebrate today to have a change of heart towards your fellow man and love more", he emphasised.

Rev Dr Agbeko who was preaching on the topic, "Behold your promised Redeemer", added that, citizens should be careful how they treated their neighbours and handled strangers or people who did not agree with their ideologies in the name of the law, society, church and political affiliations.

He entreated them to be good and show love and kindness to everyone they met because the natural law of karma was real and could not be escaped.

"No witchery, religious leader, fasting or prayers can save you from the law of karma, when it catches you so have the right attitudes towards people ".

He discredited people who treated others badly especially with injustice because they had power over them.

The Moderator advised Christians not to put their trust in their leaders as they had limitations and were bound to fail, but instead, pray for them to deliver and not see them as deliverers.

"For all you know they are also praying for deliverance because, they may also be troubled ", he told the congregation.

Reverend Jonas Kumi Agbodza, the District Pastor of EPCG, Teshie, said amidst the difficulties, divisions and temptations the church encountered over the years, they were able to come this far by the Grace of God.

He expressed gratitude to the Lord for the journey so far and called on all leaders, both past and present and stakeholders to come on board to achieve the task ahead in soul winning to increase the growth and membership of the church.

Mr Allan Kwesi Doegah, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Energy and Petroleum (MoEP), on behalf of Mr John Peter Amewu, Minister, MoEP, expressed government's appreciation to the church for its numerous effort in helping in the nation's development.

He lauded the church for its establishment of schools, comprising, secondary and tertiary and hospitals to support the country's social amenities.

He congratulated them for their successes so far and urged the leadership to continue to nurture the church to propagate further.

Right Honorable Edward Doe Adjaho, the Former Speaker of Parliament, urged all political parties to come together and agree on negotiations to avoid election disputes in 2020.

He called on the National Peace Council, Electoral Commission, Catholic Bishops Conference, and Christian Council of Ghana and all stakeholders to engage government to ensure a peaceful environment for development for citizens to serve their maker well.

The day was climaxed with awarding of citations to outstanding and committed past and present leaders.
