EP Church Ghana holds 23rd joint synod with Eglise Evangelique Presbyterienne du Togo

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (E.P.C.G) has ended a three (3) day Joint Synod held from July 30 to August 1, 2018 with its sister church Eglise Evangelique Presbyterienne Du Togo (E.E.P.T) with a firm declaration to reject homosexuality, lesbianism and bi-sexual relations in its entirety.

The Joint Synod which is the 23rd edition is a gathering of both churches which intends to discuss issues of mutual interest relating to church growth, spiritual upliftment and unity. Although seperated by borders, the sister churches have over the years worked together for sustainable development of the church in both countries.

The Moderator of E.E.P.T., Rev. Avinu Mensah Sename who delivered the sermon at the official opening noted that, both churches are one and must remain united to be able to be manifest the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit in them.

He noted that, the church must aspire to be honest witnesses of the teachings of Christ in these times when the world is facing many issues of division. He urged the church to continue to pray for peace to reign in Togo as any social unrest has implications on its growth.

The Moderator of the E.P.C.G, Rt. Rev Dr. Seth Senyo Agidi in his remarks to the gathering called on both churches to remain united in the fellowship to present the essence of the Holy Spirit to the world. He stated that both churches shall remain united to ably reform nations.

The Synod was on the theme “You shall be witnesses of the unity of the Church if you are filled with the Holy Spirit – John 17:21, Acts 1:8 and 1 Corinthians 12”12-13, 25”.

The President of the All African Conference of Reformed Churches (ACRC), Rev. Dr. Uma Avo Owunta from Nigeria who was present at the function stated that, the African Reformed Church has unique values and must resist any western impositions such as same sex marriage.

While commending both churches for practically depicting unity as one body of Christ irrespective of their nationalities, he employed the church to strive for independence from the Western world as a mark of maturity. “Let us live by faith in Christ and we shall overcome all problems”.

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana (E.P.C.G.) and Eglise Evangelique Presbyterienne Du Togo (E.E.P.T) are products of missionary efforts of the North German (Bremen Mission) founded in 1847.

The Churches are driven by common goals and objectives to transform the world into the light and likeness of Christ through holistic propagation of the gospel. They operate with the same values and organize joint events occasionally to strengthen the bond existing between both countries while remaining relevant in evangelization worldwide.
