EP Church Ghana and Christian Council extend condolence over helicopter tragedy

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, in collaboration with the Christian Council of Ghana, has extended its deepest condolences to the government and citizens following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent public officials on August 6, 2025.

In a heartfelt message, Moderator of the General Assembly of the EP Church and Chairman of the Christian Council, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bless Divine Agbeko (Rtd.) expressed sorrow on behalf of the entire Christian fraternity.

Among those lost in the helicopter crash were two cabinet ministers, Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Hon. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, as well as other high-ranking government and military personnel.

Reacting to this development, the Moderator noted the immense contributions of all eight victims, acknowledging the painful void left in the hearts of their families, institutions, and the nation at large.

On behalf of the Christian Council and the EP Church Ghana, he expressed solidarity with the bereaved families, the Parliament of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Democratic Congress during this time of national mourning.

While grieving their untimely passing, the Moderator also called on Ghanaians to honour the memory of the deceased by committing to the collective pursuit of a just, prosperous, and peaceful nation.

He emphasised that true tribute to their service and sacrifice lies in national unity, purpose, and dedication to progress.

He also called for God's comfort for the bereaved and eternal rest for the departed souls.

Message of condolence

On behalf of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana and the Christian Council of Ghana fraternity, I express my heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, the National Democratic Congress, the Ghana Armed Forces, bereaved families, and the entire Ghanaian citizenry for the loss of eight gallant public officers, including two cabinet ministers and six other public officials, who died in the line of their official duties in a tragic military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

We share our grief-stricken pain with the Government of Ghana and families of the deceased for the loss of Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Hon. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtarla Mohammed, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Their sudden departure has left a deep void in the hearts and space of their families, institutions, and all Ghanaians who cherished their stewardship, leadership, and sacrifices.

While mourning the untimely loss of these distinguished gallant icons, the best tribute we need to offer in memory of their dedicated services is to demonstrate our unwavering loyalty to building a buoyant, prosperous, just, and peaceful Ghanaian economy.

May the Lord, in His mercy, comfort all who mourn, comfort in our resolve with the Spirit of hope, and grant our departed compatriots eternal rest in His Peace.
