Acting Moderator of General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Agbeko has supported calls by Parliament and other civil society organizations to institute legislative regulatory measures to sanitize the Christian faith institution of charlatans.

“Ghana is increasingly becoming a dump hill for all manner of dubious religious societies under the jurisdiction of phony leaders whose deceptive acts are adulterating Christianity and causing moral decay in society”, he lamented.

Rev. Dr. Agbeko was speaking in Accra during a consecration service held for 53 newly trained Presbyters of Madina District of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana. The newly consecrated presbyters, comprising 21 females and 32 males were offered one year training in Church administration and stewardship, preaching, liturgical and sacrament practices among other Biblical teachings.

The EPCG Moderator cautioned that if pragmatic and stringent regulatory interventions are not put in place to curb the nefarious activities of these charlatans, some of who portray themselves as ‘Prophet’, ‘Bishops’ or ‘Prophetess’, the sacred Christian faith institution could be infiltrated with immorality.

He therefore called on the Christian Council of Ghana, the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council and other relevant Christian umbrella institutions to unite against the canker of charlatans in the country. Rev. Dr. Agbeko urged the newly consecrated presbyters to be submissive to the Holy Spirit for guidance in order not to fall prey to false prophets or encounter temptations.

He also urged them to be guided by the virtues of Jesus Christ and serve in the Spirit of love, humility, integrity and dedication to duty as a faithful servant of God.

The Head Pastor of EPCG, Madina District, Rev. Godwin Osiakwa entreated the newly trained Presbyters to put in practice their lessons and serve diligently in the spirit peace and self control in accordance with the tenets of a faithful Christian leader and worthy of emulation as Disciples of Jesus Christ.

Rev. Osiakwa, also the immediate past Clerk of the General Assembly of EPCG underscored the need effective harmonious working relationship among Presbyters, Pastors, Catechists and other congregants required for the growth and development of the Church.
