Church to establish rehabilitation centre next year

Bishop Godson King Akpalu, Presiding Bishop of the Good News Evangelical Mission International (GONEMI), on Monday announced that the Church has acquired land at Tetegu, near Accra, for the construction of a rehabilitation centre.

He said the facility when completed would help promote better care and relief for the unfortunate people in society.

Bishop Akpalu was addressing the 7th National General Assembly of GONEMI, at its headquarters at Darkuman in Accra, under the theme: “God’s Kingdom, the Reason for our Total Transformation in the World”, which was attended by delegates from all the 19 branches of the church within and outside the country.

Bishop Akpalu, who is also the President of the Ghana Mental Health Association, said the church undertakes social responsibility intervention projects to solve social problems such as drug addiction, prostitution and mental health.

Bishop Akpalu said the rehabilitation project that would commence next year was not for any personal gratification or aggrandizement, but a social responsibility.

The clergyman called his colleagues, government, philanthropists and all well meaning organizations as well as individuals to support the project for it to be completed on time.

Bishop Akpalu expressed concern that some ministers of the gospel preach only prosperity messages at the expense of seeking holiness and God’s kingdom, and cautioned them to refrain from the practice to avoid God’s wrath.

He commended the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council for supporting GONEMI in its activities.

Bishop Akpalu thanked God and Ghanaians for the peaceful conduct of Election 2012, and appealed to political parties and their supporters to exercise restraint in all their activities, to sustain peace to avoid post-election tension in the country.

The Reverend Eddie Coffie, Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, called on Christians to avail themselves to the things of God in order to expand His kingdom.

There were fraternal messages from sister churches of the body of Christ as well as a drama staged by the House of Goodnews to grace the occasion.
