Catholic diocese begins new Five million US dollars High School

Sefwi Wiawso, Feb. 11, GNA - The Catholic Diocese of Sefwi Wiawso has begun work on a multi-purpose senior high school at Sefwi Datano near Sefwi Wiawso.

The project, covering 110 acres of land, is estimated to cost five million dollars and comprises classroom blocks, assembly hall, masters' bungalows, football fields and formation centre. The Clap for Jesus Incorporated of the United States is supporting it.

The assembly hall, bungalows and classroom blocks and the provision of water and electricity have been completed and the school is expected to begin admissions in September. Mr. Kwesi Blay, the Deputy Western Regional Minister, said the role played by the Catholic Church in the building of the human resource of the country was enormous.

He appealed to all churches to assist in stemming the moral degeneration in the society.

Most Reverend Joseph K. Essien, Catholic Bishop of the diocese, said the school would offer holistic training. Madam Naana Biney, Wiawso District Director of Education, said the poor standard of education in the district was a major challenge that needed a concerted effort to reverse. Mr. Tom Clements, Chairman of the Clap for Jesus, said the decision to support the programme was aimed at assisting the youth to serve the community and other sectors of the economy after their education. 11 Feb 07
