Catholic Archdiocese gives to prisons

The Metropolitan Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi has presented assorted gifts running into thousands of cedis in support of the upkeep of inmates at four prison centres in the Ashanti Region.

The gift included food items, used clothing and shoes, detergents, fruit drinks and cookies.

The prisoners, who are being held at the Kumasi Central Prison, Manhyia, Amanfrom and the Obuasi Prison, were also treated to meals including banku, tuozaafi and cooked rice.

The Most Reverend Gabriel Anokye, Metropolitan Archbishop, urged the prisoners to pray to God for forgiveness and change from their bad ways and accept to live within the law in order to be readily and warmly embraced by society when they are released.

Deputy Controller of the Prisons Service William Anoff, Regional Commander, said the service is grateful for the immense support they receive from the church.

He used the occasion to appeal to other religious groups, and organisations to contribute their quota towards caring for the prisoners.
