Baptists commemorate Good Friday with convention

The Dangme East Baptist Association of the Ghana Baptist Convention, on Good Friday started its four-day convention to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ on Calvary.

The convention which started with a church service at Dawhenya near Tema, is on the theme: “Jesus, the Marchless Saviour” and it is being attended by Baptists drawn from Kpone and Ada.

Rev. William Lartey Larkotey, Chairman of the Dangme East Baptist Association, told the Ghana News Agency on the convention grounds that, Ghanaians must use the period to reflect soberly on the sacrifice God made for mankind.

He urged all Christians not to depend on political leaders and human beings for their survival but should rather look up to Jesus Christ since he only has the solution to their problems.

Rev. Larkotey appealed to Christians not to use church services during the Easter period for merry making but rather reciprocate God’s love towards their neighbours and unbelievers.

He said, it was unfortunate that instead of revisiting the act of sacrifice during the celebrations, some people use the Easter holidays to engage in immoral activities.

On the ongoing biometric voters’ registration exercise, the Baptist Chairman advised prospective voters to register their names reminding them that by so doing they would help promote peace and stability.**
