Dr Frank Amoakohene is a Ghanaian politician and esteemed medical practitioner currently serving as the Ashanti Regional Minister since January 30, 2025, after his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama.
Before this role, he was the Ashanti Regional Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Early Life and Education
Dr Amoakohene commenced his education at St. Monica’s Primary School and progressed to St. Andrews Junior High School. He later attended Osei Tutu Senior High School in Kumasi, where he completed the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2008.
He enrolled at the University of Ghana, graduating in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences. He furthered his medical education at the same institution, earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree in 2020.
In 2023, he achieved a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science degree at the University for Development Studies (UDS) and obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Accra Business School in 2024.
Career
Dr Amoakohene's political journey began through student leadership, and he later joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He contested as the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Mampong constituency during the 2020 general elections.
In December 2022, he was elected as the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, where he played a pivotal role in coordinating party activities and engaging with regional structures.
On January 14, 2025, he was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama as the Ashanti Regional Minister.
Following parliamentary approval, he officially assumed office on January 30, 2025, where he oversees the implementation of government policies and development initiatives in the Ashanti Region.
Tenure
As of February 2026, Dr Amoakohene has been in office for approximately 13 months, making history as the youngest person to serve as a Regional Minister in Ghana.
Leadership and Politics
Dr Frank Amoakohene has demonstrated his leadership capabilities from an early age, holding significant positions such as:
• President of the University of Ghana Allied Health Students Association (2013–2014).
• President of NAHSAG (2015–2016).
• President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) (2017).
After transitioning to mainstream politics, he became the NDC parliamentary candidate for Mampong in 2020 and subsequently served as the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC.
