Ofori Amponsah 03.06 Arguably the most famous contemporary highlife artist of the moment, Ofori Amponsah’s introduction into the lime came through Daddy Lumba who collaborated with him in producing ‘Woho Kyere’. After this he had to wait for six years before launching himself on full scale in 2000 and has since released several albums including ‘Asew’, ‘Meprawo’, ‘Bohobio’, ‘Sardine’ and ‘Otoolege’.

He has distinguished himself as a brilliant songwriter who uses sweet and flowery lyrics both and Twi and English to tell his story, which is often love-related. He is also famous for his high pitch falsetto.He has collaborated with great musicians like Kofi Nti, Barosky and K. K. Fosu to give his music the extra fillip. His use of metaphors and his ability to create appropriate imagery for the subjects of his songs is highly commendable. He has won several awards and in 2006, he set precedence by winning 7 Awards in one night at the Ghana Music Awards. He followed up in the same manner with his Emmanuella album in 2007.

In 2008, his smash hit album, Odwo which featured Samini on its lead song won 3 Ghana Music Awards. He was born to Johnson Kwadwo Ofori and Georgina Nkansah in 1974. He started his education at Agogo Practice school and continued at Konongo Odumase Secondary School where he developed a lot of interest in reading and later poetry and he started writing a series of poems which according to him he used in the lyrics of Asew and some of his earlier songs.

Ofori Amponsah after he has dropped out of school in Upper Six met one Marcus, a Rastafarian, who started teaching the rudiments of music. Today he is the most decorated artist in Ghana Music Award history.
