Olympics beat Kessben 2-1

Accra, May 7, GNA - Accra Great Olympics opened their account of the second round of the Onetouch Premier League on a positive note with a 2-1 victory over Kessben FC in their week 17 clash on Wednesday at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium. Kessben, who ended the game with 10 men went up after five minutes through newly recruited striker Edmund Owusu Peprah. Kessben drew first blood when Douglas Nkrumah surprised the Olympics defenders by picking what appeared to be an out touch pass from the flanks before laying a perfect pass for Peprah to connect home easily.

Olympics responded swiftly as Tanko Ibrahim drew level a minute later with a clinical header that left goalkeeper Frank Andoh sprawling. On the quarter hour, Abdul Basit scored the second goal for Olympics when he meandered through the defence of Kessben and planted the ball beyond the reach of Andoh. The goal sparked off a celebration in the stands as the faithful Olympics' army of supporters rose up with chants and choruses to motivate the players.

On the half hour mark, Kessben, who had begun to get into their stride were dealt a severe blow when defensive pillar Richard Agyei was pulled out for Iddrisu Yahaya due to injury. A minute later, their plight was further worsened when Moro Ibrahim was shown the exit after he deliberately stamped Labaran Deen. Olympics, who remained superior in dominance were robbed of an opportunity to consolidate their lead the five minutes from half time, when Andoh tipped off Deen's header from a corner. The second half was favoured Kessben who had more possession but Ahmed Zakari blasted a good chance n the 63rd minute and Tofiq Alolo fired away from goal when he was unchallenged in the box.. 07 May 2008
