The Miners chief is optimistic his team will hold on to their first leg advantage in the return encounter of the Caf Champions League preliminary round fixture

Ashanti Gold chief executive officer Kudjoe Fianoo is confident of his side’s chances ahead of the 2016 Caf Champions League preliminary round second leg encounter with Algerian side MO Bejaia.

The Ghanaian league champions will travel to the North African country in a fortnight with a slim advantage, following a 1-0 victory in the first leg at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.

“I’m not disappointed with the scoreline,” Fianoo said.

“I’m confident that we will shock them in Algeria in the return leg in two weeks’ time in order to book our ticket to the next stage of the competition.

“I’m saying that because I know what my players can do. So Bejaia should be wary of what we are bringing on board in the second leg.”

Tijani Joshua scored the only goal of the encounter played at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.

“They [Bejaia] came into the game and had a well rehearsed strategy which worked for them,” Fianoo added.

“We created decent chances and we should have scored more goals but at the end, we had only one.”

Ashanti Gold’s last attempt at glory in the elite continental club competition was a first round exit at the hands of Algerian side JS Kabylie in 2008.
