Soccer fans commend GFA Disciplinary Commeettee

Hohoe, April 15, GNA- Soccer enthusiasts in Hohoe have commended the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for dealing concisely with the four recalcitrant teams which compromised the rules of the game to play fixed matches during their last middle-league encounters.

They were, Nania Football Club, Okwawu United, Great Mariners and Mighty Jets.

The fans said the decision to fine, demote and sanction the unruly clubs would serve as a deterrent to others and further demonstrate that GFA was on top of football administration in the country. They said football had become serious business and any person, groups or clubs which wanted to bring the game into disrepute by unconventional means deserved to be punished severely.

Mr Ibrahim Fatau, a fan commended GFA for the swift manner in which the issue was dealt with and hoped that GFA would descend on other gray areas militating against the development of the game.

He said match fixing constituted a heinous crime and Football governing body FIFA frowned at it adding that the punishment was too light for the clubs.

Mr Jones Ofori blamed the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) for the mishap and urged the GFA to "cleanse" the Association of miscreants.
