BA Beat Stay Cool

At Koforidua, visiting B. A. United beat Stay Cool Professionals F/C 1-0 to pick the three maximum points at stake in their match played at Koforidua.

B. A. united scored the only goal of the match in the 54th minute through their inside left Nana Frempong who managed to outrun two Stay Cool defenders who were shepherding the ball to touch and lifted the ball on the line to the left corner of the post .

Stay Cool had themselves to blame for messing up two clear chances that came their way in the first five minutes. In the 18th minute, the inside right of Stay Cool, Francis Darko had another chance when he broke through the defenders of the B. A. boys but was slow in shooting the ball which was cleared to corner. It was all celebration for the large number of supporters of B. A. United who were at the stadium to cheer their Club to victory when referee Ali Musah Plato of Kumasi signalled for the end of the match. However, the victory celebrations was cut shot when police at then gate prevented the supporters from entering the inner perimeter of the Stadium and insisted that they should wait for their players to come out of the field.

The supporters refused to wait and forced their way into the inner perimeter and this made the police to arrest some of them. However the rest of the supporters refused to allow their colleagues to be taken away by the police resulting in a scuffle.

It took the intervention of the Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, Alhaji Amidu Mahama for tempers to be calmed down.

Faisal Beat Olympics

Accra, Aug 10, - GNA - Two goals, one in each half from Kwadjo Poku gave King Faisal a 2-0 away win over Accra Great Olympics in their match played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The win further cements Faisal's recent dominance over Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium, having beaten them in the past three years. King Faisal started the game with a big bang as they opened the scoring in the first minute after Olympics' Victor Ogoe fumbled with a back pass to allow Poku to race for 20 metres before slotting the ball beyond Theophilous Mensah for the opener.

The early goal unsettled Olympics defence and allowed Poku and Abubaker Yahuza to easily find spaces through the center, forcing goalkeeper Mensah into a lot of defiant saves to keep his team in the game. Fast and slippery Poku who was a thorn in the flesh of Olympics throughout the match went past his marker in the 12th minute before laying the ball on the path of Yahuza who shot straight into the waiting hands of the Olympics' goalie.

Olympics gradually warmed themselves into the game from the half-hour mark but found the Faisal defence unyielding forcing the game to be concentrated in the center of the pitch.

In the 34th minute, Class one referee F K Bassaw, from Takoradi incensed the bench of Faisal when he waved play-on after goalkeeper Mensah had clearly brought down Yahuza in the penalty box.

Olympics found the fast running strikers of Faisal too slippery customers to handle resulting in Sumaila Iddrisu being shown the yellow card in the 36th minute for pulling Yahuza.

In the second half, Olympics pushed their game a notch higher and succeeded in pushing the visitors back to their half of the pitch in the early exchanges, but Faisal's resolute defence built around Justice Ampah and Illiasu Alhassan remained firm.

Olympics brought on John Cudjoe and Roger Odametten for David Tagoe and Richard Yeboah in the 62nd and 63rd minutes but that yielded nothing much as Faisal continued to dictate the pace.

The visitors increased the tally in the 71st minute when goalkeeper Mensah fumbled with a free kick from skipper Godwin Ablordey to allow Kwadjo Poku, who was lurking around, the chance to finish off the rebound.

Hasaacas Hold Lions

At Kpando, Sekondi Hasaacas drew 1-1 with Kpando Hearts of Lion in their match played at Kpando.

Both goals were scored in the first half.

Abraham Kudemor, a defender of Hearts of Lion, put the home team ahead from a spot kick in the 14th minute when Ricky Essuman of Hasaacas handled the ball in his side's 18.

Emmanuel Okyere equalised for Hasaacas in the 26 minute from a free kick outside the 18 of Hearts of Lion.

The match, which started with less than 200 spectators was exciting in the first half with Hasaacas forcing Hearts of Lion to their side of the pitch but the second half was drab with both sides slowing down the tempo of the game.

A last minute foray by the home side to score failed and they could also not utilise a free kick awarded them in the dying minutes of the match when Hasaacas Goalkeeper was penalised for handling the ball outside his 18.

Meanwhile unconfirmed reports rife in Kpando has it that Coach Zagaro Lamptey of Hearts of lion failed to turn up for the match because of a misunderstanding between him and a relative of one of the team officials.

Bofoakwa Beat Power

Sunyani Aug.10 GNA - Bofoakwa Tano won by a lone goal over visiting Power F/C in their Kinapharma premier league match played at the Sunyani Coronation park on Sunday.

Kwaku Adu scored the only goal in the 55th minute when he capitalized on a defensive blunder and shot the ball past a bewildered goalkeeper Abubakari Sulemana.

But despite their victory Bofoakwa could not impress their supporters and their abysmal performance culminated in their failure to convert two spot kicks awarded them in each half. The first penalty was in the 30th minute but Owusu Sarpong wasted it, while the second one taken by Emmanuel Nuhel in the 56th minute was saved by goalkeeper Sulemana.

Abu Issah of Bofoakwa was rushed to the Sunyani Government Hospital after clashing with an opponent soon after the commencement of the second half.

Red Cross officials on duty tried unsuccessfully to revive him.

Division One

Dwarfs sink Wise

Cape Coast, Aug. 10, GNA - Dwarfs beat Sekondi Eleven Wise 1-0 in their first division League match at the Cape Sports Stadium. Dwarfs dominated the game and on several occasions came close to scoring but goalkeeper Tetteh Engman thwarted their efforts. Dwarfs dominance paid off in the 85th minute when Ekow Gansah capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to score the lone goal.

Home Stars pip Khalid 1-0

Ho, Aug 10 - GNA -- Ho based Home Stars Football club on Sunday beat Khalid Stars of Accra by a lone goal in the Division One League match played at the Ho Sports Stadium.
Nicholas Kwesi scored from a goal mouth melee in the 28th minute and the homers defended it gallantly till recess. Both teams started the second half more purposefully but this could not alter the score-line as the game, sometimes, degenerated into rough play.
