Mirren say bye to Premiership

Accra, July 12, GNA - Sporting Mirren had their relegation tickets firmly booked when they lost 1-2 to visiting Bechem Chelsea in the 29th Week Premier League game played at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra on Sunday.

Mirren who have battled with relegation since the commencement of the second round were the first to score in the 18th minute, when Nicholas Coffie fired a free kick into the roof of the net. The veteran-led coach Emmanuel Kwesi Afranie led Mirren to hold on to the lead till the close of the first half but were unable to maintain their dominance of the first 45 minutes of the game into the second segment of the match.

The second half saw Chelsea having most of the exchanges as they pinned the homers to their own half as they searched for the equaliser. This paid off for them in the 73rd minute when Ibrahim Issaka took advantage of a melee in the half of Mirren to head home the much needed equaliser.

Despite the cancellation of the goal, Mirren remained in their shells and allowed the visitors to dictate the pace of the game. It therefore came as no surprise when Nana Eshun rose above the Mirren defence to score the match winner in the 82nd minute from Moro Awudu's cross.

Chelsea held on to the lead till the close of the game by referee Reginald Lathbridge after two minute of added on time.
