Liberty beat Ashgold 2-0

Accra, March 12, GNA - Liberty Professionals maintained their unbeaten home run in the Onetouch Premiership by beating Ashantigold 2-0 in their Week 14 clash at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park on Wednesday. Two second half goals from striker Yaw Antwi and midfielder Ashmond Asamoah was enough for the homers to clinch their sixth home win in the penultimate match of the first round.

Though a tight encounter, as both teams packed their midfields, Liberty had the better of the exchanges during a first half but fluffed the handful of scoring opportunities they had.

Ashgold's goalkeeper scored full marks by responding to Samuel Ayew Yeboah's goal-bound volley. The goalie topped it up with another superb save from the rebound by Yaw Antwi in the 39th minute, and a minute from half time, Emmanuel Osei shot wide from Richard Kissi's cross from the left.

The visitors resumed the second half on a bright note but it was Liberty who looked more purposeful with possession. In the 68th minute, substitute Richard Awuah was gifted with a perfect chance to put Ashgold in the lead after Liberty's central defender Bawa Mumuni had failed to clear his lines, but surprisingly, Awuah shot wide with only goalkeeper Patrick Antwi at his mercy. A minute later, Liberty broke the deadlock through Antwi, who had the easiest task of tapping the ball into the yawning net after colleague Latifu Salifu had lobbed the ball over an advancing Dauda, following a communication error between the latter and his defender. Eleven minutes later, Asamoah made it two after being fed by Latifu who had dribbled his way past the Ashgold defenders.

The homers still had the upper-hand but attempts to increase the tally remained a dream till proceedings came to an end.
