Last gasp strike powers Mirren to victory

Accra, Jan. 19, GNA - A last gasp strike in the dying minutes by substitute David Amoako aided Sporting Mirren to chalk a hard won lone goal victory over Sekondi Eleven Wise on Monday in their Week seven Glo Premier League clash at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

Amoako who had replaced captain Frank Boateng in the 78th minute struck home the match winner with a low drive that beat Wise goalkeeper Baba Sampana for his side's second win of the season when the game seemed to be coasting to a goalless draw.

In a clash between two newly promoted sides, Mirren would have had themselves to blame had they failed to snatch the maximum points at stake as they wasted several chances.

One of the advantages was a wasted penalty four minutes to recess when Boateng shot into the waiting hands of keeper Sampana after Thomas Yeboah had been fouled by Abdul Basiru in the box. The pattern continued in the second half with George Ankamah with opportunities easy to connect than waste, blasted wide in the 73rd and 84th minutes.

Wise also had their share of the exchanges and substitute Johnson Amamoo should have made the best of an effort in the 68th minute but lobbed the ball wide. The clash was the final fixture of the Week Seven matches of the Glo Premier League.
