Kotoko hammer Tema Youth

Kumasi, May 27, GNA - Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Wednesday recorded a back-to-back victory over visiting Tema Youth with a 3-0 spanking in their mid-week Glo Premier League match played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. After chalking a first leg 2-1 in Tema, the Porcupine Warriors looked motivated in the initial stages of the match and concentrated their attack on the flanks to enable them penetrate the water-tight defence of the visitors which was centred around Godfred Ofosu, Mike Anwan and Alexander Antwi It was in one of such moves at the right flank that saw Louis Quainoo deliver a carpet pass to Alex Asamoah which the striker made no mistake in going through the defence in a solo effort and in the process he was whacked down by goalkeeper Patrick Antwi for a penalty kick in the 11th minute. Asamoah made no mistake by converting the spot kick and went ahead to increase the tally for his side in the 60th minute with a spectacular goal which was initiated by midfielder Francis Akwaffo and Kwadwo Poku in a counter attack.

Tema Youth, sensing dedeat abandoned their defensive tactics and pushed more players forward but Gado Mohammed and Edward Affum messed up the chances that came their way in the 70th and 72nd minutes. Kotoko who dominated the game, especially in midfield and attack, came close to scoring the third goal but Kwadwo Poku's low grounder missed the post narrowly in the 85th minute.

On the stroke of full time, the home team was gifted with a goal when Kwadwo Poku's thunderbolt of a shot in a goalmouth melee took a deflection of Alexander Antwi for an own goal which sent the teeming supporters of Kotoko into wild jubilation soon after proceedings.
