Kingson content with Oly draw

Richard Kingson Richard Kingson

Experienced goalkeeper Richard Kingson emerged the hero as his penalty save earned Great Olympics a point in Obuasi.

Olympics played guests to New Edubiase United at the Len Clay Stadium and fought out a barren draw following the ex-Black Stars’ heroics during the FCPPL match day 16 encounter.

The 36-year-old brought his experience to bear on the game as he denied the hosts full points by stopping Samad Ibrahim’s second half penalty kick.

“We went for the three points but managed to get one. It is a fair point for us at least,” Kingson, whose saving exploit and overall performance earned him player of the match said.

He says such situations needed a dig into one’s experience to save the side.

“Penalty save? Sometimes these are some of the situations that as an experienced player, you can use to save the team. I’m happy I did exactly that,” said the former Wigan Athletic shot-stopper.

Kingson however complained about the late penalty awarded Edubiase.

“The circumstances under which the penalty was even awarded was very bizarre. It was a bad call by the referee and I will be happy the authorities take an action on him.”

Great Olympics currently lie 13th with 19 points and will next play city rivals Hearts of Oak in an Accra derby on match day 17.
