Hearts secures first Premier win

Accra, Oct. 25, GNA - Accra Hearts of Oak secured their first victory in the premiership when they chalked a lone goal victory over Kessben FC at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra on Sunday.

Playing with a set-up made up largely of the regular players of the last season with some new infusions, the defending champions exhibited an improved performance to earn their first three points as compared to their two previous games.

The Phobians were however given equal opposition from the well drilled and composed Kessben side under the technical guidance of Bashiru Hayford, which gave no clear dominance to any of the two sides.

The two teams, however, were able to create some few scoring chances with the brightest falling on the path of Bernard Don Bortey of Hearts and Prince Atakorah of Kessben but they could not convert them thus leaving the game barren after the first 45 minutes.

The second half saw Hearts capitalizing on Kessben's goalkeeper Joseph Cudjoe's error to take the lead which eventually became the match winner, after eight minutes I the second half.

It was a goal that could have been avoided had the Kessben keeper Cudjoe not fumbled to make a first time save of Don Bortey's cross creating the opportunity for on-hand Mahatma Otto to easily nod home for the match winner in the 53rd minute.

Hearts, however, had to hang on dangerously on their lean lead as Keseben subjected them to intense pressure aimed at cancelling the goal but their attacking force was not up to the task to make the needed conversions even though they also responded with occasional counter breaks which were foiled.

Playing with a well rehearsed strategy, the Kessben lads could have secured the much needed equalizer in the 87th minute but substitute Anum Lanquaye failed to convert perhaps the best chance in the dying minutes of the game leaving Hearts to go home safely with the three points. 25 Oct. 09
