Glo Premiership Enters Week Eight

The Glo Premier league enters week eight this weekend with some mouth watering pairings. Chief among the pairings is the match between defending Champions Berekum Chelsea and Soccer Miners Ashantigold at the Berekum Golden City Park.

The defending Champions did not start the season on a good note but have bounced back with a style and have leapfrog Hearts to the second position on the log with 14 points whilst Ashantigold are eleventh on the table with nine points.

Berekum Chelsea looks richer in terms of materials and are bent on defending the league crown they won just a season ago but the Soccer Miners also have a statement to make to their teaming supporters that all is at least not lost and especially looking at what happened between the two clubs last year, Ashantigold will certainly give Chelsea a good run for their money.

At the Wa Park, All Stars will welcome the Phobian Boys, Accra Hearts of Oak. All Stars are fifth on the table with 13 points whilst Hearts on the other hand are third on the table with 14 points.

Coach Nebojsa Vucicevic has transformed his side from efficient ruthless side to practitioners of sexy football and especially in their midfield where they can boast of the likes of soccer graduate Uriah Asante, former Windy Professionals midfielder Thomas Abbey, the young Isaac Ofori, the hard Knox Moro Abubakar and Douglas Nkrumah but what the coach has failed to do is to pair a perfect combination upfront for the Phobains.

All Stars are always favorite at the Wa Park where they get most of their league points from and since Hearts are attackingly impotent at the moment, the home side can cause a mare to the former continental club masters but Hearts has proven in recent times that they can never be written off in a league match. A draw looks likely but if there should be any win at all then I think it may come from the visitors.

Medeama SC will also welcome Kpando Hearts of Lions to the Essipong stadium in Sekondi in a match which promises to be a grueling encounter. Medeama are tenth on the table with 9 points whilst the visitors are seventh with 11 points.

The strength of Medeama has always been the partnership between Tanko Ibrahim, Luis Agyeman and Hans Koffie and if Lions manage to put the breaks on these players then they will certainly enjoy butter and cheese at the Essipong Park but a win for Medeama is likely in this encounter though Lions will not give up on a silver platter. At the Cape-Coast Robert Mensah Stadium, Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs will play host to New Edubiase united. The home side together with league leaders Kotoko are the only teams in the league who are yet to loose a match in the competition and will be looking forward to maintaining this feat but the visitors have enjoyed some good results at the Robert Mensah stadium in recent times.

New Edubiase seems to have the solution to the striking problem in the Country. They sold Seidu Bansi to Dwarfs at a time when he was in top shape but they can still boast of Emmanuel Baffoe who is leading the goal king chart with eight goals so far.

Dwarfs look likely to pick the three points at stake but I equally think that New Edubiase can strike an away win at the Robert Mensah stadium especially if their live wire Emmanuel Baffoe should have a good day.

League leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko will engage new entrant Wassaman united at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi. The Porcupine Warriors, Kotoko are very sharp upfront and the defence of Wassaman will not enjoy marking these hungry Kotoko attackers.

Coach Maxwell Konadu is almost through in building a complete team for Kotoko and Wassaman will be indebted to the fabulous boys in all departments of the game. Kotoko were unlucky not to have scored in their match against Hearts at the Accra sports stadium last Sunday and will surely make amends against the struggling Wassaman.

At the Osagyefo Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa, former Africa campaigners Aduana stars will entertain Tudu Mighty Jets. Aduana are currently ninth on the table with 10 points whilst Mighty Jets are twelfth with just 6 points.

Aduana still don’t have the men in front to be banging in the goals for them and have been relying on their right fullback Godfred Saka to keep them going. Mighty Jets play quite good but coming against Aduana at their favorite grounds will be too tall a mounting for them to climb.

Scientific Soccer lads, Liberty Professionals will also engage Berekum Arsenal at the Sly Tetteh Park in Dansoman. Liberty is eighth on the league table with 10 points whilst Arsenal is thirteenth with just 5 points.

The home side looks likely to pick up the three points at stake but if Coach Sarpong and his boys are not careful Arsenal can surprise them at their own background.

Tema Youth will play host to bottom club Bechem united at the Tema astro turf Park. Both clubs are having four points but Tema Youth have conceded lesser goals and that keeps them at the fourteenth position on the table.

The last time Tema Youth played at their home grounds in a league match, they proved all skeptics wrong by outscoring no mean a team than Medeama SC and will be looking forward to do same to Bechem but the visitors will give them a good match though Tema Youth will still win at the end of the day.
