Fighting Bofoakwa split points with Liberty

Accra, Aug 23, GNA - Tano Bofoakwa playing for most part of the second half with ten men, remained unyielding, to split the points with Dansoman based Liberty Professionals when their 16th week Kinapharma Premier League encounter ended goalless at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors determined not to lose for the second time to Liberty who beat them by a lone goal in their 15th week encounter at Sunyani last week matched the home team boot to boot throughout the game created the first open chance in the 19th minute when Halima Awudu flashed his shot just across the face of the post.

The Visitors suffered a set back in the 28th minute when influential midfielder Thomas Duah got injured and was substituted by Gordon Yeboah.

Bofoakwa influence in the midfield waned as the game progressed and Liberty nearly took advantage of the situation to score in the 32nd minute when William Tierro shot just missed the post. Tierro again missed a gifted chance in the 40th minute when goalkeeper Ransford Cudjoe in post for Bofoakwa fumbled with the ball after a cross but the striker with an open net in front of shot wide off target.

On the stroke of half time, Emmanuel Nkrumah nearly fired Bofoakwa into the lead from the edge of the box but Yaw Berko in post for Liberty equally matched his effort with a good diving save. Liberty came from the break an improved side and in the 49th minute nearly opened the scoring but for a courageous effort by Cudjoe to block Tierro effort.

The visitors' task was made more difficult in the 52nd minute when Stephen Ofei was shown the second yellow card in the 52nd minute for dangerous play having been cautioned in the first half for a similar offence.

Not surprisingly Bofoakwa substituted clumsy Awudu who wasted a lot of scoring chances and brought on Adu Kwaku. Within minutes of being on the field, Adu had his side's best chance in the 67th minute when he was put through but was denied by a daring save by Berko.

Liberty struggled to take advantage of the man advantage came close when Asamoah Gyan who had a quiet day found his effort from a seemingly offside position miss the post narrowly. As the game wore on, the send off took its toll on Bofoakwa and Gyan nearly took advantage of a defensive lapse to score the winner in the 72nd minute but again Cudjoe on hand to save the situation again. 23 Aug, 03.
