Faisal holds Mirren to a barren draw

Accra, May 18, GNA - Sporting Mirren failed in their bid to rise above the relegation zone after Kumasi based King Faisal held them to a barren draw on Monday in their 19 Week Premier League encounter at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

The clash, the final of the Week 19 fixtures ensured the newly promoted Club remains at the depth of the 16-Club standings with 15 points from a maximum 57.

Faisal who finished the game with a man-less after Abdul Samad Oppong was sent off on 74 minutes held their own against their hosts whose attackers completely lacked ideas in front of goal.

After a barren first half, which saw Mirren's Moses Andoh fumble with the closest chance of the opening on five minutes, both teams resumed the second half strongly in their quest to break the deadlock. Andoh, the most experienced player in the Mirren set-up appeared a pale shadow of himself throughout his stay in the game as he caught wanting anytime he was put through.

In the 58th minute, Togolese-import Komi Achite who had replaced Prince Antwi during the break blasted wide with only the Faisal goalie Samuel Okyere to beat after hard working Mahatma Otoo had laid him through. The introduction of Nicholas Coffie for Isaac Ofori on the hour mark brought some bite into the Mirren attacking machinery, but Coffie and his colleagues remained visionless in front of goal.

They severally raided the Faisal half and the result was either an off target effort or a save by the Faisal goalie Okyere.

Faisal appeared more dangerous on the break and almost succeeded in breaking the virginity of the game five minutes from time through Eric Agyemang but Mirren's goalie Tetteh Lugard was up to his side's rescue with a brilliant save to send the game to barren draw.
