Discipline and hard work our new strategy - Akunnor

Sekondi, Oct. 18 GNA - The Manager of Sekondi Eleven Wise Football Club, Charles K. Akunnor has said that his team is more disciplined for this year's Premier League and will avoid attracting unnecessary cards that had hindered the Clubs performance last season. "The boys have gone through counselling and we have advised them to avoid attracting unnecessary cards that could retard our progress by playing in the top four," he stressed.

Akunnor said this known at a pre-match press conference held at Sekondi on Friday to strengthen the relationship between the Club and the media in the region.

"All I want is to win the league and I would not tolerate any kind of indiscipline from any player whether he is popular or not," he cautioned. The Manager noted that even though the team will be missing the services of skipper Yaw Antwi and Adamu Mohammed due to injuries they still make amends.

Akunnor, however assured that there are other players who are capable and poised for winning their first match against Wa All Stars at the Sekondi on Sunday. Charles Osei-Asibey, Communications Director of the Club disclosed that as part of its community development programme they will engage in friendly matches against tertiary institutions and senior high schools in the Region to tap talents from the schools level and also advertise the club's brand to the youth.

He said the Club during the 2009/2010 league season, will organise pre-match press conferences to make information about the club available to the media. The Communications Director noted that a curtain raiser will also be played by the reserve and the junior sides of the Club to keep them in constant shape.

Osei-Asibey added that the Club has introduced a Player of the Month award and a Player of the Match trophies to motivate the players to give off their best. Michael Ocansey, a player of the club advised the supporters to unite and give the club the necessary support to make them excel. "Divisions among supporters has a negative impact on the playing body and all efforts must be made to cheer the team to victory this season" he noted.
