DOL registration opens Jan. 27

Accra, Jan. 19, GNA - The Division One League (DOL) Board has announced the commencement of registration of players for the 2009/2010 season which is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27. The date for the exercise was reached at after a meeting between the DOL Board and the participating Clubs on Monday after the session of the Extraordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) earlier in the day had amended the special rules and regulations for the second tier of Ghana football.

The amendment of the special rules made way for the reconstitution of the DOL membership from 48 to 52 Clubs. The registration will last till February 4 to be followed by the verification process fixed for February 19 to 26. The meeting agreed unanimously that the DOL should kick-off on Sunday, February 28 at the approved centres.

GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi had earlier explained that the increase in the number of Clubs in Zone 3, which necessitated for the amendment, will see six Clubs relegated from the Zone at the end of the season.

Mr Nyantakyi added that the number of relegated clubs from a particular Zone will be dependent on the geographical representation of the demoted clubs from the Premier League.

The session at the Congress, which lasted about three hours and was one of the shortest ever held in the annals of Ghana football, was attended by Executive Committee members, Clubs officials and other stakeholders.
