NDK Financiers Silence Multistix

- TO WIN IPMC HOCKEY LEAGUE IN THE SENIOR DIVISION The headline match in Senior League turned into a perfect day for Financiers and their fans, as they were made to work hard for the three points they gained over a resolute Multistix side in the final match of the IPMC Hockey League. Multistix swiftly assumed the ascendancy, but they found Financiers goalkeeper Adolf Adjei (Alosman) in impressive form. He made three early saves, but was, however, powerless to prevent Multi breaking the deadlock soon afterwards, from a penalty corner converted by Eric ‘Dada’ Mainoo.

After going behind in the 5th minute, Financiers found themselves fighting for survival. Financiers’ striker Ebo Arthur had the opportunity to put his side level from the penalty spot but could not beat in-form goalie Gavivina Tamakloe of Multistix. In spite of this, Financiers refused to accept defeat, and clawed their way back courtesy of Ebo Arthur to level the score at 1-1. Flurries of activity at either end in the run-up to the break failed to change the one all scoreline.

In the second part of the game, Financiers striking partners blew holes in the Multistix rear guard, and found the target twice in a performance dripping with pace and style, putting the game effectively out of Multi's reach. The 3-1 effectively dethroned defending league champions Multistix and gave Financiers their second silverware this year after winning the GALA during the commencement of the season.

The final match of the day between the A-League giants CEPS and Golden Sticks eventually ended in a 1-1 drawn game. It was an encounter in which a defeat will have been disastrous for Golden Sticks, since a slip would dislodge them from the second position. The result gave Golden Sticks the runners-up position, with runaway leader CEPS annexing the 2008 A-League trophy.

Youngsters, Real Ambassadors began their encounter with Police in perfect fashion, opening the scoring after merely four minutes and minutes later added another goal, to take a 2-0 lead. The Police side took a moment to recover from that setback, but eventually strung together a number of attacks and drew level before the break. Real Ambassadors celebrations in the second half with a 4-3 lead, with just seconds to end proceedings, were short-lived however, as Police applied incredible pressure in the final seconds and fetched the equaliser. Marine Sticks beat Reformers by 4-1 in their match, with Patrick Taylor scoring all four goals and increasing his goal tally to 10 as the top scorer in the A-League competition.
