U-16 Hockey team leaves for Singapore

Accra, Aug. 3, GNA - The national U-16 male Hockey team left Accra last Monday night for Singapore to participate in the inaugural Youth Olympics.

A 20-member delegation made up eight officials and 12 players went through Dubai en route to Singapore to take part in the maiden edition of the Youth Olympics.

Erasmus Adorkor, Chief Sports Development Officer of the National Sports Council told GNA Sports that the team snatched the ticket for the global event after emerging winners at the African Championships held in South Africa later in the year.

He said the team will also fine-tune their preparations with friendly games against their Singaporean counterparts and Malaysia before the games commences.

The games will commence on August 14 to August 26 with all the matches billed for Senghang Hockey Stadium in Singapore.

Players born from between January 1, 1993 and December 31, 1994 to date are eligible to participate in the championship.
