SESSA Hockey - Ghana Army Personnel Marr End of Successful Hockey Event

The indiscretion and gross disrespect for laid down rules and regulation on the part of the Team Manager of the Ghana Army Hockey Men’s team, SS/SGT Robert Brachie marred the end to a very successful SESSA Hockey event hosted at the National Hockey Stadium. During the course of the match, SS/SGT Brachie left the substitution bench area and went onto the field to attack Umpire Aziz Salami with a hockey stick in the 25th minute in protest to an infringement awarded against his team. Umpire Aziz subsequently sent him off for violent conduct. SS/SGT Brachie however refused to leave the playing field and the substitution bench area as the rules demand thus holding up play for about 10 minutes. He finally left the field of play after persistent persuasion from the Tournament Director and other colleagues of his. After the final whistle, SS/SGT Brachie again rushed onto the field of play and attacked Umpire Aziz but for the timely intervention of some Fire Service personnel who restrained him, he would have caused him some harm. His actions insighted his player with two of them, Ghablah-Nene David and Blankson-Kpakpo Joseph climbing the fence mesh to go and fight with the CEPS supporters in the stands. A female Ghana Army athlete by name Ayesha also showed gross disrespect towards the Chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association who had joined the large crowed to watch the finals when he tried to restrain her from threatening to physically assault a Police hockey player. This was a very sad spectacle to a well organized and patronized event and the personnel involved must bow down their heads in shame for bringing the game and the office of the Ghana Army into disrepute. CEPS Men meanwhile retained their title with a 2nd minute goal courtesy James (FM) Mason winning the contest 1-0.
In the women’s final, Fire Service put up a spirited performance to dethrone CEPS in a fast paced match. A well worked pass from the right of midfield was nicely tucked away by Joanita Korwu in the 45th minute to give Fire the victory.
Five players tied for the top scorer award with 3 goals each in the men’s category while Pamela Condobrey of Prison Service topped the women’s contest with 3 goals.
