Inauguration of Hockey stadium rescheduled

Accra, July 01, GNA - The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Hockey Africa Cup for Nations, Ghana 2009 has rescheduled the inauguration of the hockey stadium for Monday, July 6.

The inauguration, which was slated for Friday, July 3 was rescheduled to facilitate international participation of the ceremony to be performed by President John Evans Atta Mills.

The National Hockey Stadium has undergone major facelift to meet international standards for the successful hosting of the July 10 to July 18 tourney.

As part of efforts to intensify awareness for the eight-day championship, the LOC has circulated tournament posters. Magnus Rex Danquah, Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the LOC, told GNA Sports that posters for the tournament have been embossed with the slogan "Lets begin to dream again".

He added that posters of varied designs have fisher folks, the statue of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Kakum National Park, the Independence Arc, Cocoa and other natural resources as well as pictures of the renovated National Hockey Pitch as brands.

The Acting LOC CEO said the Kotoka International Airport, Kanda Highway, Graphic, Spintex, Kumasi and Takoradi roads are among the list targeted for branding.

The exercise is billed to commence on Wednesday, July 1. Twelve countries are expected to participate in the championship.
