Hockey LOC organise seminar for Journalists

Ghanaian sports journalists have been taken through the rudiments, techniques, rules and regulations of the game of Hockey. The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 9th African Hockey Federation (AfHF) tournament Ghana 2009 are using the series of such seminars to help sports journalists get acquainted with the game of Hockey and the right terminologies for the competition that spans July 10-18.

The seminar which came off last Monday at the Media Centre of the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra also offered participants the platform to update their knowledge on the rules and regulations for both the game of hockey and on the tournament.

Messrs Richmond Attipoe, experience International Hockey Federation (IHF) umpire, Richard Akpokavie, Vice Chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association and Nii Quaye-Kumah, Secretary General of AfHF took participants through various topics regarding the game. Mr Akpokavie threw light on terminologies and pitch outlay, Mr Attipoe took participants through interpretation of the rules in umpiring and Mr. Quaye-Kumah touched on technical table and other duties by Tournament Director (TD), Technical Officers (TO), Medical Officer and Media representatives.

Journalists have also been invited to the commissioning of the newly built 1,500 seater ultra modern Hockey stadium by President John Evans Atta Mills on Monday July 3rd and to also witness exhibition games.
