Ghana wins bronze in men's hockey African Cup

Pretoria, Oct. 9, GNA - Young Elikem Akaba on Saturday scored his second important goal in the hockey Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa with a last minute drag-flick as the national male hockey team beat Nigeria 2-0 in the third place play-off to win bronze.

The two sides drew 2-2 on Friday in the final group match, which was purely academic because it did not affect the standings. Joseph Appiah opened the scores for Ghana on 40th minute with a beautiful connection from a penalty corner after unstoppable raids.

Akaba, who is fast establishing himself as an important goal scorer, after putting the icing on the cake in Ghana's 5-0 drubbing of Namibia, delivered a perfect finish on the stroke of full time. In the ladies match for third place, Namibia beat Nigeria 2-1 to take bronze.
