Ghana and Nigeria in 2-Match Test Series

As part of their preparations towards the African Olympic Qualifier and as per the agreed schedule under the FIH Coaching Assistance Programme, Ghana and Nigeria will renew their long standing hockey rivalry in the men’s division with a 2-match test series on April 5-6 2007 at the National Hockey Pitch.

The Nigerians were expected in the country on Sunday April 1 2007 while their Dutch coach is expected in the country on Monday evening to conduct a training camp for the team. Similarly, the Ghanaian Team which has been training under their Ghanaian coaching staff will go into residential camping on Monday evening to prepare them for the series. Their preparations will be complemented by their Dutch coach Mr. Reinoud Wolff who visited earlier this year under the FIH Coaching Assistance Programme.

It is the expectation of many that the series would bring out the very best in both countries and give the fans who will throng the National Hockey Pitch to watch the matches something special to savour for a long time.

In a related story, the Executive Board of the GHA after due consultation, has appointed Mr. Kester Ajao as the Team Manager of the Men’s team with effect from March 19 2007. He will team up with the coaches to handle the team. We take the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Ajao on his appointment and encourage him to bring his disciplinary acumen to bear on the team.
