Ghana To Celerate Youth Hockey Marathon

The Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) in conjunction with the International Hockey Federation (FIH), will celebrate the Annual hockey Youth Marathon on Saturday May 13, 2006 at the National Hockey Pitch in Accra.

The theme for this year?s celebration is ?Hockey, a Sport for Everybody? and seeks to put the emphasis on the fact that the sport offers playing opportunities for all ages, race, gender and physical capabilities to participate and enjoy this important component of the Olympic Games.

In Ghana, the idea behind the celebration is to take a critical look at the membership of the GHA and the opportunities to expand the player base in particular.

The celebration will form part of a Continental Development Forum being organised in Ghana under the auspices of the FIH and in collaboration with the African Hockey Federation (AfHF). The FIH Manager in charge of Development and the Development Officer for African together with some very important dignitaries will grace the occasion.

The programme will commence at 07:00 Hours on the day and would include various activities that would offer a lot of excitement and satisfaction in addition to ensuring physical exercise of the body and mind. All member clubs of the Greater Accra Hockey Association, selected schools and selected communities will participate in the programme. The detailed programme will be as follows:
