Ebenezer, Presec retain hockey trophies

Ebenezer Secondary School and Presbyterian Secondary School, Legon, retained their trophies when the Greater Accra Second Cycle Schools Hockey competition ended at the National Hockey Pitch in Accra last Friday.

In the girls division, defending champions Ebenesco, who had beaten Temasco 1-0 and whipped Labone Secondary School 2-0, went on to beat Chemsec 1-0 to qualify for the final match.

In the thrilling final, Accra Girls held Ebenesco to a goalless game but lost 0-1 on penalties. Chemsec beat Labone Sec. School 3-2 on penalties after a goalless match to place third.

In the boys division, Legon Presec trounced Temasco 3-0, drew 2-2 with Presbyterian Sec. School, Osu, and beat Ebenesco in a classic semi-final match 3-1 on penalties.

In the final match, Legon Presec had to pull all the tricks under their sleeves to beat Osu Presec 1-0 in a ding-dong match. Ebenezer Sec. School beat Accra Academy 1-0 to place third.

In his closing speech, Mr Richard Akpokavie, Executive Member of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA), commended the participating schools for their wonderful exhibition of skills and advised the selected students to train harder to bring glory to themselves and the Greater Accra Region. In attendance were Mr E. A. Kissiedu, Chairman of GASSA, and Headmaster of Accra High School, Mr G. K. Adukpo, Headmaster of WASS, and Chairman of the Games and Athletics Planning Committee, Ms Diana Welbeck, Headmistress of Osu Presec, and Mr Ofori Agyei, Headmaster of Ebenezer Secondary School.
