Mixed results for Ghana at Africa Zonal Handball Championship

There were mixed results for Ghana at the opening day of the African Handball Confederation (CAHB) Zone 3 U-20 Championship played on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Male team got off their campaign on a positive note after beating their Togolese counterparts 31-25, whilst their female colleagues lost 16-33 to Nigeria.

The Black Fingers dominated their Togolese to cruise to victory whilst the female counterparts surrendered their early lead to allow the Nigerians start the campaign on a high note.

In the other matches, the female team of Togo were beaten 7-19 by neighbours Benin in an all-Francophone affair.

It was double delight for Nigeria as their male team also accounted for Cote d’Ivoire 28-13.

The zonal championship is a developmental programme set up by CAHB towards the development of the sport on the continent. Other participating countries are Burkina Faso and Liberia.

The winner of the competition, which ends on Friday, June 1, will qualify for the continental championship, where the winner will represent Africa at the global championship scheduled for Czech Republic in November.
