National cricket teams given a boost

Accra, Dec. 24, GNA - Olam Ghana Limited, an India rice-importing firm has donated 60 T-shirts to the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) to cloth the various national teams as they prepare for a series of tournaments from January, next year.

The 2.5 million-cedi worth of items were presented on behalf of the company by Mr Ramesh, General Manager of the company as their contribution in helping Ghana cricket catch-up with the rest of the world.

Mr David Quaigrine, Chairman of the GCA who received the items expressed appreciation to the firm and urged other companies to come to the aid of the association in its preparation of the teams towards their desire to conquer Africa.

Ghana is scheduled to participate in the first-ever West African under-15 cricket tournament which kick-starts on January 15 through to the 19th in Sierra Leone.

The senior national team would also play host to the Marylebone cricket club from the United Kingdom in February and would welcome neighbouring West African countries in a quadrangular test match in April.

The Ghana senior team will later in the year (2004) defend their West African crown in Gambia and would trek to South Africa in March for the preliminary round of matches towards 2007 Cricket World Cup slated for the West Indies.

The 10-day round robin matches would also feature Botswana, Gambia, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Rwanda and Sierra Leone.
