Klah, Teye win MTN Golf Classic tourney

Joseph Klah and Jessica Teye of Achimota Golf Club emerged winners in the Men and Women’s divisions respectively in this year’s MTN-sponsored Classic Golf tournament held at the Tema Country Golf Course last Saturday.

Joseph and Jessica emerged winners with 67 and 76 strokes respectively in their various divisions.

The tournament which drew over 80 golfers to the Tema Country Golf Club also saw good old Mona Captan, also of the Achimota Golf Club winning the price of the longest drive in the women’s division with Joseph Klah picking that of the men’s division.

In his welcome address, the captain of the Tema Country Golf Club Mr Owusu Baah revealed that MTN had agreed to sponsor the Classic Golf Tournament for the next three years while thanking the mobile telecom giants for their continued support.

In his address, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana outline a number of Golf tournaments that were in the offing and were going to be sponsored by MTN.

He mentioned the Ghana Open to be held by the Celebrity Golf Club, the Accra Open to be held by Achimota Golf Club and the MTN CEO’s Invitational Tournaments to be held by the Celebrity Golf Club in September, October and November respectively as some of the major tournaments to come.

He said MTN had moved beyond the provision or sale of air time to enriching the lives of people.

“Whether it’s the payment of DSTV bills, school fees, ECG bills, lunch from KFC or shooping from Melcom, MTN Mobile Money is there to help you, all through the use of your mobile phone,” he said.

“We want to help promote a cashless economy in Ghana,” he added.

Mrs Suzzy Kamassah and Mr Frimpong Tenkorang both picked awards in the women and men’s categories respectively for being “closest to the hole”.

All award winners took home MTN souvenirs and trophies.
