Vetch Bempong, Opoku wins Tema Tigo Open

Enterprising Vetch Bempong and young Ernest Opoku claimed honours at the Tema Country Golf Club (TCGC) over the weekend with victory in this year’s Tigo Tema golf open competition.

Bempong dominated the ladies scratch event to close the two-day contest with a gross score of 173 to finish ahead of Grace Afriyie who closed on the same score. Victoria Adjei (182) and Vivian Kwame (184), finished third and fourth respectively.

Opoku won the men event after coming through a play off with Yoa Dogbe after both had finished with a gross of 152. E. K. Owusu (157) and E. Nyarko (159), finished in that order in third and fourth.

The four-day professionals competition was won by Kwadjo Bannie whose score of 280, saw him winning the GH C 1800 prize money at stake.

Second place went to A. Gbenyo (286) one stroke ahead of the experienced Emos K. Korblah with T. K. Govinous finishing fourth.

The men handicap event was won by M. Pervert who closed with a net score of 143 ahead of Dan Antwi (144) and E. K. Ocansey (145).

Rainier Nagaye won the ladies category with a net score of 157 with Florence Etwi-Barima (158) and Cynthia Nyantakyi (158), finishing second and third respectively.

The men category B event was won by K. Arkaah after returning a net of 148 which was two strokes better than Darko Mensah and three better than Richard Boateng.

Young Elizabeth Gabiam won the youth competition ahead of Eddie Donton Jnr and Patrick Tender.

The competition which is one of the majors on the calendar of the TCGC was sponsored by communication giants Millicom Ghana Limited with its major brand Tigo.

They provided prizes and cash money to all winners and pledged to carry on with sponsorship of this competition in the years to come.

The next event on the calendar of the TCGC is the CAL Bank invitational which is on this Saturday.
