Torgah crowned Gold Fields PGA champion

Vincent Torgah from the Tema Country Golf Club was crowned champion in the Gold Fields Professional Golf Association (PGA), Ghana golf tournament held at the Damang Golf Course in the Western Region.

Torgah made a score of 272 over four days and took home a whopping cash prize of GH¢10,000 plus an additional GH¢1,000 from the Executive Vice President of Gold Fields West Africa, Alfred Baku for making a five under in two days.

Stephen Klah from the Achimota Golf Club who also made a score of 293 came second and went home with a cash prize of GH¢6,000.

Brave Mensah also from the Tema Country Golf Club finished third with 294 to carry the GH¢4,000 cash prize at stake. Emos Koblah from Achimota Golf Club and Kojo Barni from the Tarkwa Golf Club came fourth and fifth and took home GH¢3,000 and GH¢2,500 respectfully as cash prizes.

About 27 professional golfers across the country converged at the Damang Golf Course for the four-day event.

President of the Professional Golfers Association of Ghana, Bliss Ayivor, commended Gold Fields Ghana Limited for coming on board to sponsor the event.

He said that, ‘‘I thank the golfers for responding to their call to participate in the tournament and wished them well in future tournaments especially those who could not make it to the cash prize zone. I urge the golfers to take their profession and training serious since that is the only way to assure them of success in their chosen fields’’.

Executive Vice President of Gold Fields West Africa, Baku said that Gold Fields Ghana will continue to support golf and sports as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility which promotes healthy living and physical fitness.

A two day amateur tournament was also held for about 30 amateur golfers who were grouped into three categories.
