Tema Tigo Open Golf to come off Aug.12

Tema, Aug. 1, GNA 97 The 2006 Tema Tigo Open Golf Championship tees off at the Tema Country Golf Course on Saturday, August 12 to Sunday, August 13

About 200 amateur and professional golfers throughout the country are expected to participate in the two-day 36-Hole Scratch competition. Mr Ebenezer Adablanu, Chief Executive Officer of the Club who announced these at Tema on Tuesday, said the competition, which is to be played under the rules of the World's Golf governing body, the Ghana Golf Association and the local rules of the Tema Country Golf Club, is being sponsored by Millicom Ghana Limited.

He announced that entry qualification for the event, which used to be known as 91Mobitel Open', was Handicap 18 while those with Handicap 24 may also be considered to play to Handicap 18.

Mr Adablanu said some of the notable golfers who have already registered for the competition include Jin Ha Park, Alex Fiagomey, William Yeboah, Paul Owusu-Baah and Felix Owusu-Adjepong, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, who is also the President of the Tema Golf Club. The 72-Hole Professionals event, which had attracted a large entry, will begin on Wednesday, 9 August to Saturday, 12 August. Seven prizes would be awarded in the Men's event while three prizes would be given in the Ladies category.

Robert Allotey of Celebrity Golf Club would be defending the trophy he won last year.

Paapa Owusu Ankomah, Minister of Education, Science and Sports is to be the Special Guest of Honour.
