Suleman wins Aboakyer Open Golf

Winneba,(C/R), May 6, GNA - Randy Abu Suleman returned a net score of 63 to win this year's Aboakyer Open Golf Championship played at the Windy Bay Golf Links at Winneba in the Central Region on Saturday. Suleman who played 33 Front and 34 Back with a Handicap of four, will now be playing to a new Handicap of three.

Alex Abakah took the second position returning a net score of 64 with a Handicap of 18, and will now be playing to a new Handicap of 15. Peter Mensah placed third with 65 net with Ebenezer Tetteh Mensah coming fourth with 66 net, while Peter Abrokwah was fifth with 70 net, beating Dan Dennis on count-back

Essie Cobbina won the Ladies Division with 70 net when she beat Rosemond Coggin on count-back with Maria Ben-George placing third with 73 net, while Margaret Bada took the fourth position with 78 net. The one-day 18-Hole Stable-ford competition, which was opened to amateur golfers throughout the country, was sponsored by Excel Courier Ghana Limited.

Professor George Ntsiful, President of the Ghana Golf Association called on interested golfers who have up to date not registered with any club, but continue to play in competitions to put a stop to the practice since the Association is putting in place measures to deal drastically with such offenders.

He said it is the aim of the Association to do everything possible to ensure that the sport is developed in the country especially among the youth.

Mr Kwaku Ghartey-Sam, President of the Windy Bay Golf Links, commended Excel Courier for sponsoring the competition. He said the Club is embarking on a membership drive to ensure that more golfers join in their activities. Mr Mike Ezan, President of the Achimota Golf Club asked golfers to contribute meaningfully to the development of the game. Mr Alex Afenyo Martin, Chief Executive Officer of Excel Courier Ghana Limited gave the assurance that the company would continue to sponsor the event in the ensuing years.
