Sai wins GCB Accra Open Golf

Accra, Oct. 28, GNA - Godwin Sai of Achimota Golf Club returned a gross score of 148, to win the Ghana Commercial Bank Accra Open Golf Championship that ended at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Sunday. J.K. Govinous took the second position with 149 gross, J.K. Amuzu placed third with 151 gross, beating Paul Nukunu and David Nazareth on count-back while George Osei placed fifth with 154 gross. Grace Afriyie of Tema Country Golf Club won the Ladies event with 170 gross, Mona Captan came second with 172 gross, Esther Amedzro placed third with 191 gross while Victoria Adjei took the fourth position with 194 gross.

Emos Koblah won the Professional's event with 215 gross while Vincent Torgah placed second with 216 gross with the Junior's trophy going to Nana Yeboah with 38 net score. The two-day 36-Hole Scratch event opened to amateur and professional golfers throughout the country, attracted more than 150 golfers.

Mr Lawrence Newton Adu-Mante, Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank said golf, like other sporting activities must be developed in the country to international level to help market Ghana hence their sponsorship.

He gave the assurance that the bank would continue to support the development of the sport in future. Mr Adu-Mante was assisted by Mr K.G. Osei Bonsu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank to present prizes to the winners.
